Classification of French Writers

There have being tens of thousands of French writers over the years. Some of them were able to author popular books and other literary works that are used all over the world. Few of them went further to win the Nobel Prize for literature, as a result of their effort and hard works, which made them to significantly influence French literature. French writers could generally be classified into short story writers, essayists, poets, playwrights, novelists and writers.

Short Story writers

French short story writers are individuals who specialize in writing short stories. Short stories are a prose fiction piece that can be completed within a short time, mostly in one sitting. This type of writing developed from the oral version of telling short stories in the seventeenth century. Short stories often feature easy characterization and diverse work body. The characters in short stories are usually few with all of them having a name. The major aim of short stories is to evoke a mood or single effect. Dynamic components such as resonance and plot are usually used to achieve this. Even though there is a lot of difference between short stories and a novel, the authors of both works usually get inspiration and information from the same techniques of literature.

Essayists

French essayists are individuals who write essays in French. An essay is a writing piece where a writer gives his own view about an argument. The definition of essay sometimes overlaps with those of short story, pamphlet and article due to its vague nature. The features of formal essays include length, logical organization, dignity and serious purpose.

Poets

French poets are individuals who write poetry in French. Some people describe their selves as poets, which some others are described as poets by other people. Poets sometimes perform to an audience or just write poems.

Playwrights

Playwrights are individuals who write plate. They are also referred to as dramatist as their works are majorly intended to be acted out on a stage. When they are written in form of books, there is always a name preceding statements that are spoken by the person. Little descriptions of the stage, activities and information about the actors are also included.

Novelists

A novelist is an individual who writes or authors novels. The novels could sometimes be non-fiction and in other times, they could be fictional. Individuals who make a living from novel writing are referred to as professional novelists. French novelists usually write novels in the French language. The French novels and reception of the novels could be in form of religion, nationality, ethnicity or race, social class, sexual identity, place and gender. They are also available in genres such as history, romance or crime.

Writers

Writers refer to an individual who communicate ideas to others with different writing techniques and styles. Writers could be used for any of the classifications of French writers above. A writer could therefore describe short story writers, essayists, poets, playwrights, novelists.
